NextUp RVA (“NextUp”) is a fast-paced, innovative, and growing organization focused on providing all Richmond Public School middle school youth with access to coordinated, high-quality learning experiences beyond the classroom. NextUp believes that when young people participate in high-quality after- school programs during this pivotal, formative stage of their lives, they benefit in tremendous ways – socially, physically and academically.  Currently, partners with three Richmond middle schools and more than 30 local high-quality community-based out-of-school time programs to enrich the experiences of middle school youth beyond the traditional school day.  NextUp provides its partners with centralized registration and outreach, a shared data measurement system, and sponsored professional development. The more coordinated our efforts and the more extensive our reach, the greater the impact we can make in our children’s present and future. NextUp is presently an affiliate of The Community Foundation. 

Position Summary:

The Evaluation Specialist is a part-time position that works as a member of NextUp’s dynamic, data-driven and results-focused Program Services team.   The Evaluation Specialist is responsible for the distribution, collection and analysis of NextUp’s surveys and evaluation tools used to measure the impact of quality expanded-learning programs on youths’ school and social-emotional outcomes.  The Evaluation Specialist is also responsible for developing outcomes and performance measures reports to funders and entering data into funders’ data systems. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Track and monitor Program Performance Standards and Measurable Objectives per organizational priorities and for grants
  • Maintain excellent filing system for program compliance and data management 
  • Manage and coordinate deadlines and requirements for assigned grant reporting
  • Implement teacher, family, partner and student surveys throughout the year to measure progress and impact
  • Coordinate regular meetings with NextUp Leadership staff and site staff to review grant requirements
  • Monitor and enter evaluation data into NextUp’s Information Management Systems
  • Assist Director of Continuous Improvement & Evaluation in refining databases, data collection and improvement tools
  • Develop and submit regular reports to CEO, Director of Programs and Director of Continuous Improvement & Evaluation regarding status of activities and measurable objectives at site
  • Develop and maintain a high level of communication and positive relationships with staff, administration, and community partners
  • Ability to learn quickly and independently about educational terminology and data resources 


  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data and presenting it in a compelling way.
  • Ability to learn quickly and independently about educational terminology and data resources 
  • Demonstrates exceptional technological skills and research abilities.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Extensive knowledge of data management software.
  • Excellent statistical analysis and organizational skills.
  • Displays strong management and leadership skills.
  • Exhibits superior presentation skills and ability to explain complex processes to others.
  • Demonstrates excellent analytical and critical thinking skills and pays close attention to detail.
  • Conscientious, responsive, and adaptable – and takes ownership of work. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be self-motivated and accomplish job tasks with little to no supervision.
