Growing through Adversity
COVID-19 has had far-reaching effects for Richmond’s youth, schools and OST providers. Faced with the reality that in-person programs may not be feasible for some time, we set to work determining how to pivot our organization and program providers to best serve Richmond Public Schools students. We emerged from this challenge with a strong, robust online platform led by community organizations and teachers. We look forward to schools opening again and will be right there to connect students and providers to both in-person instruction and virtual instruction – whichever students and families need. As an organization, we are facing the challenges that COVID-19 presents head on and will continue to lead a robust, accessible system that provides students with a network of quality learning enrichments, adult role models and mentors that empower them academically, socially and emotionally.

NextUp is a wonderful program. I had the opportunity to meet a lot of his instructors and you could tell that they all loved their jobs. They were really passionate about helping the students.

Student
They helped me with my homework after school and my grades went way up. I started getting A’s, B’s and C’s, instead of C’s and D’s. And, it helped me with my attitude,I’m a lot friendlier now!
